Auto crash: 3 FRSC officials die, 10 injured —Shehu

**Nteje Unit begs for power supply

PHIL OKOSE, Onitsha

It was revealed yesterday that no fewer than three officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, attached to zone 5 (RS5) Benin City, comprising Edo, Delta and Anambra states, lost their lives in an auto crash that occurred at Nnewi and Auchi within seven months (December 2015 – June 2016)
Also, during the period under review, 10 sustained various degrees of injuries.
Making this disclosure at Nteje during the familiarization tour of commands under him, the zone 5 commander, of FRSC, Mr. Zaki Alkali Shehu, added that some of the survivors have been permanently rendered incapacitated and urged the officers and men in the zone to always be conscious of their lives especially when on duty.
He said: “Security has become a serious problem on the highway which suggests there is urgent need to solve it. We discussed this issue with the Chief Executive Officer in Abuja and he was disturbed. We will bring it to the front banner to see how it can be solved”.
“Something has to be done but the bulk of it lies in your hand. Today you find marshals lying unconscious on the road; some don’t even know how to stop a vehicle. You don’t stop a vehicle at all cost” he warned.
“This job will not end today or tomorrow, be security conscious. Military signed their death warrant but you are not fighting any war. We don’t want to lose you as the head of your family. Do the right thing and leave the rest for God”, he pleaded.
He advised them to”resign if you are tired of the work and as you are itching to resign some want to come in but do not have the opportunity you have”.
“The Federal Government is not owing us salary. They pay us regularly. We don’t want anybody to be dismissed, we can live without extortion”, he further added.
Earlier in his welcome address the Nteje Unit commander, Mr. Justine Boseh, described Mr. Shehu as a go-getter who he has worked with for about 15 years during which period they were able to solve some teething problems and urged him to come to the rescue of the command by solving its problems.
On logistics he stated that, “we need patrol vehicles, the cost of maintaining the ones we have is to high and our ambulance vehicle is grounded and will take up to #150,000 to be refurbished.”
Mr. Shehu had after listening to the plea of Boseh, commended the Anambra state command of FRSC for performing good  stating that he was abreast with the problems confronting each command in zone 5 pointing out that, “no organization that does not have problem but the ability to solve such problem makes a man”.
