For the past 17 years, the Nestle Milo Basketball for Secondary Schools in the country held its final in Lagos.
However, this year’s edition tagged “Building Champions in Life” will hold the Grand Finale in Asaba the capital of Delta State.
What this means is, after the finals from the conference, about Four of them in number: Western Conference – in Benin, Central Conference in Ilorin, Confluence Conference in Lokoja and Equatorial Conference in Enugu, all roads will lead to Asaba the capital of Delta State for the grand finale.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Nestle Milo, Dharmesh Gordhon at a briefing to unveil the programmes for the 18th Edition tagged “Building champions in life” noted that Milo is a proud supporter of grass root sports development in Nigeria and with the sponsorship of the Milo basketball Championship, young Nigerians have benefitted from the opportunity to participate in the championship. He noted that many have gone on to achieve great heights both in Basketball and other endeavors of life.
“This is a great heritage for young Nigerians who have benefitted from the opportunity to participate in the championship. Milo believes that sports have qualities that set the foundation for a child’s future.”
The excited Delta State officials led by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Chiedu Ebiye, who received the flag for the hosting rights, promised to do their best to ensure a hitch-free championship.
“We are really excited and we commend nestle milo for this opportunity given to delta state, to show that our state is sports loving.”
The Chairman Delta State Sports Commission, Tonoboa Okowa gave the assurance that the facilities will be put in place for the championship as well as security of the players and officials. “Our indoor sports hall in Asaba will be used. We need to fine -tune a few areas to befit the championship of that magnitude. As host, we will not lose focus of getting our teams ready for the championship. Delta state is also targeting the top position at the grand finale”
